SILENT KNIGHT.....
dedicated to the real Silent Knight
I have been a supporter of the Marine Mammal Center for the past few years....I always look forward to reading their face book posts.....one day they posted about Silent Knight..a brave sea lion who was shot in the face and left for dead....they rescued him and saved his life.....his injuries left him blind ......his story touched my heart and I adopted him ....MMC told me they loved him and they called him their gentle giant.....they said it seemed to them that he knew they wanted to help him and he was always so cooperative with the medical treatments.....he is now living at the San Francisco Zoo and working as an animal ambassador teaching people about good animal and ocean stewardship....and still being a gentle giant......
I knew I wanted to tell his brave story thru music for my cello....the music tells the story from the beginning where he is lounging around as sea lions like to do when he is shot and left for dead.....then ,there is period of medical rehab which leads into a more happy( melodic) time in his new life and home....a happy ending for Silent Knight........
This is Silent Knight's story in the words of the Marine Mammal Center............

SILENT KNIGHT
Named for his regal demeanor, this California sea lion was the victim of an intentional act of human violence. Shot in the face and left for dead, he had at least 5 buckshot fragments in his head and damage to his mouth and jaw. Our veterinarians provided the critical care he needed to recover from his life-threatening injuries, but his devastating wounds left him blind. Once healthy, he was sent to the San Francisco Zoo where he acts as an educational ambassador, carrying the message to treat all creatures kindly. We hope that Silent Knights story of why he came into the Center's care will highlight the occurrence of these horrific crimes and ultimately inspire people to care more about these animals, and inspire greater stewardship of them and their ocean home.
