O MIO CARO  BABBINO....(orig. arr. for solo cello)

"O mio babbino caro" ("Oh My Beloved Father") is a soprano aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi (1918) by Giacomo Puccini...when I first heard it, I was stunned by its emotion.....I did not know, at the time, that it was a soprano aria...I just wondered why I could not find a tenor singing it:-)...I could hear my cello's voice singing it,  so I wrote a tenor/cello arrangement in the original key of Ab....

I spent a lot of time listening to Maria Callas sing it as I felt her interpretation was so very beautiful and emotional ..... I wanted to be able to bring these emotions out with my cello...it is my hope that you can hear this :-)...I have included the literal translation of the lyrics so you can see the anguish in this aria....

LYRICS (literal translation)

Oh my dear papa,
I love him, he is handsome, handsome.
I want to go to Porta Rossa
To buy the ring!

Yes, yes, I want to go there!
And if my love were in vain,
I would go to the Ponte Vecchio
And throw myself in the Arno!

I am anguished and tormented!
Oh God, I'd like to die!
Papa, have pity, have pity!
Papa, have pity, have pity!

I appreciate you listening to my music and stopping my site....I hope you have enjoyed your visit and please, stop back anytime :-)
